A bare practice board with a mix of through-hole components, made for one thing: repetition. There is no working gadget at the end, just a cheap, forgiving surface to build muscle memory on.
If a gadget kit feels like too much pressure for a first attempt, this is the gentler route. It is just a board and parts, but that is the point — you can solder, desolder and resolder the same joints until they look right, without worrying about breaking a finished product.

Use this board as a laboratory rather than a project. Solder ten joints, then cut them off and do them again; deliberately make one joint too cold and one too hot so you can recognise both on sight later. Practise fitting header pins straight, because crooked headers are the most common cosmetic mistake on real boards.
Self-learners who want cheap, high-volume through-hole practice.
Similar price, but you finish with a working device and a much better manual.
Adds a simple playable result for a small extra outlay, which helps if motivation is the problem.
